Importing and recovering audio
Import audio files
If you already have recorded audio (for example, from your phone's built-in recorder or a file someone sent you), you can import it directly. It's transcribed and turned into minutes just like a recording made in LATU.
Import an audio file
Step 1 of 5 · On the home screen, tap “+” at the top right.
The demo plays automatically. You can also tap the glowing spot on the phone, pick a step above, or use the left and right arrow keys.
- Tap “+” in the top-right corner of the home screen to open “Turn voice into AI notes”.
- Tap “Import from Files” and choose an audio file in the system's “Files” app.
- You'll see “Audio imported. It will be transcribed once uploaded.”, and the recording appears at the top of the home screen with the status “Uploading”. The recording is named after the file by default.
- Once the upload finishes, it's transcribed and SI Minutes are generated automatically. You'll get a message when it's ready.
- m4a, mp3, wav, and aac files are supported, up to 500 MB each. You can import one file at a time; while an import is in progress, “+” turns into a spinner.
- The recording language is the one you last chose on the recording screen.
- “Import from Photos”, “Import from other apps”, “Live capture”, and “Live translation” currently show “Coming soon” and aren't available yet.
- If you're offline, you'll see “Audio saved on this phone. It will upload once you're online.”, and it uploads automatically once you're connected.
- If you don't have enough transcription minutes left, you'll see “Import failed: not enough minutes left…”, and the file isn't imported.
- After importing, the upload continues even if you go offline or switch to the background. On iPhone, you'll get a notification when the upload finishes or fails.
If the upload didn't go through
The home screen card shows the reason, such as “Unstable network; the upload didn't finish”, “The upload link expired”, or “The recording file can't be read”, with “Upload now” next to it. Tap it to retry.
If the card says “Not uploaded; open LATU on the phone that recorded it and it will finish automatically”, the file is on another phone. Just open LATU on that phone.
Recover unuploaded recordings
If a recording or imported file was interrupted before its upload finished (for example, because LATU was closed), the file is still on this phone:
- Automatically: LATU checks automatically when you open it, when it returns to the foreground, or when your network comes back. Recordings that belong to the current account are uploaded right away, and “Re-uploading N interrupted recordings” appears at the top of the home screen. If the source can't be determined, you'll see “N recordings weren't uploaded”; tap “Review”.
- Manually: Go to “Profile → More settings → Recover unuploaded recordings”.
In “Recordings not uploaded”, each recording has an “Upload” button and a delete button on the right. After uploading, it's transcribed and organized as usual. Deleted recordings can't be recovered.
You can only recover recordings on this phone
You can only recover files that were recorded or imported on this phone and whose upload was interrupted. If you delete or reinstall LATU, these files are deleted too.
